Viola M. Frymann Centennial Celebration 2021-2022

Please join colleagues, students, and friends from across the country and around the globe to celebrate and share in memories of Viola M. Frymann, DO, and her legacy. Learn more about her recently published and pioneering wisdom captured in her Collected Papers Volume 2 from those who worked closely with her. This is a year-long celebration commencing on July 18, 2021 and ending July 18, 2022.

Join us for a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birthday of Viola M. Frymann, DO, FAAO, FCA. This occasion also marks the publication of The Collected Papers of Viola M. Frymann, DO. Volume 2: Legacy to Osteopathy.

This free, open to all, virtual event is sponsored by Osteopathy’s Promise to Children (OPC) and the Osteopathic Center for Children (OCC). The program will include a virtual tour of the Osteopathic Center San Diego which houses OPC/OCC, and a look at the lighter side of Dr. Frymann and the skits she often put on as part of her Basic Course in Osteopathy in the Cranial Field.

We just finished the 2021 Osteopathic Cranial Academy Conference devoted to the work of Dr. Frymann and cranial research. Highlights of that Conference will also be shared.

This event will also be a launch for her just published Volume 2 of Collected Papers. This second volume contains never before published writings of Dr. Frymann. She presents explications of core osteopathic philosophy on topics like “Mind, Matter and Motion,” “Potency,” and “Respiration,” as well as content typically presented during her Basic and Intermediate Courses on “Other Dimensions of Healing.” 

We believe that the combination of Volume 1 and Volume 2 of her Collected Papers constitute a body of writing second only to Andrew Taylor Still on core principles of Osteopathy. In addition, her work in Pediatric Osteopathy and teaching of the Cranial Concept are useful resources for any courses presented on these topics.

Please join us as we toast Dr. Frymann’s legacy and remember her many contributions to osteopathy. Time for sharing is included in the event

Dr. Hollis H. King, DO, PhD, FAAO, FCA is a graduate of Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, Fort Worth, TX . He is board certified in Family Medicine/OMT from the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and certified with Special Proficiency in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine from the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine. He is a Founding Diplomate of the American Board of Holistic and Integrative Medicine. His postdoctoral training was at Dallas Memorial Hospital, Dallas, TX. His internship was at the VA Hospital & Univ. of Kentucky Medical School, Lexington, KY. His Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology is from Trinity University, San Antonio, TX. He is a Fellow of and Past-President of the American Academy of Osteopathy. He is a Fellow of the Osteopathic Cranial Academy. Dr. King is currently a Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine. He also has a private practice at Osteopathic Center San Diego. Dr. Raymond J. Hruby, DO, MS, FAAO (Dist) will speak on Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJD): Osteopathic Concepts. Dr. Hruby is a graduate of the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa. He is board certified in Family Medicine/OMT by the American Board of Osteopathic Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine by the American Osteopathic Board on Special Proficiency in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. Dr. Hruby completed a traditional internship at Osteopathic Hospital of Maine, Portland, ME and was in private practice for sixteen years. Retired as professor and chair of the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at COMP, he continues consulting with the school’s Department of NMM/OMM on teaching, research, curriculum analysis and development, new faculty mentorships and Predoctoral OMM Fellows. He is involved with WUHS’s Interprofessional Education program, and lectures part-time in the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences, among others. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Osteopathy and a member of the ??American Osteopathic Association, American Academy of Osteopathy, American College of Osteopathic Family Practitioners, Osteopathic Cranial Academy, Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of California, Memberships: AOA, AAO. Dr. R. Mitchell Hiserote, DO, 

Dr. Hiserote is a graduate of Western University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pomona, CA. He is board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal/ Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine from the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromuscular Medicine. He completed his post-graduate training at the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, CA.  Dr. Hiserote is currently in private practice in Sebastopol, CA and is an Associate Professor and past-Chairman of the Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) Department, Vallejo, CA. He is a Midwestern University's Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Costin Scholar. He holds an Osteopathic Cranial Academy Certification of Proficiency. Memberships include: AOA, AAO, AAPO, and OCA.
