Statement of Need and Learning Objectives:

The activity will address osteopathic clinicians’, as well as other practicing clinicians’, needs to improve knowledge, competence and/or performance for the treatment of patients with COVID-19 by applying the principles of osteopathic medicine.

This online webinar provides an overview of the unique value that osteopathic medicine can bring to the treatment of patients with influenza and COVID-19. The evidence base for the proposed use of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) as part of the treatment program for patients with influenza and COVID-19 is heavily emphasized.

This live webcast will offer participants the opportunity to learn current concepts regarding the pathophysiology and treatment for COVID19. Participants will learn about how the use of OMT as part of treatment for COVID19 affects physiologic functions, the evidence base for the use of OMT for COVID19 patients, and how to participate in current and future clinical research in this area.

MS in Psychology, 1967 Duke University, Durham, NC. BA in Psychology, 1965. Dr. King is a Fellow of and Past-President of the American Academy of Osteopathy. He certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians. He has served on the faculties of several colleges of osteopathic medicine and most recently was Osteopathic Family Medicine Residency Director at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is currently a Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, and serves as Director of Program Services for Osteopathy's Promise to Children. He is well qualified to present the research on prenatal OMT as he has co-authored three different peer reviewed research articles on this topic. Memberships and Proficiencies: AOA, AAO, OCA. Mitchell Hiserote D.O. is a California native living in the bay area and presently holds the position of Associate Professor at the Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine - Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Department. As an active lecturer within the OMM department as well as across the Universities' other colleges, he contributes to curriculum creation and delivery, recruitment, and the admission process generously. He is an alumnus of Western University College of Osteopathic Medicine of Pomona CA where he additionally completed an Undergraduate Teaching Fellowship in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. Recently as a Costin scholar from the Midwestern University - Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, he holds a board certification in Neuromusculoskeletal & Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine from the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromuscular Medicine. His clinical sites of traditional Osteopathic private practices have included San Diego, Santa Cruz, Sebastopol, and Fresno California. Until recently he has seen patients at the Touro University Medical Clinic in Vallejo, CA. Dr. Hiserote has directed and made many presentations in Basic Cranial Courses for more than 15 years. Dr. Wolf earned her D.O. degree from Western University of Health Sciences' College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific.  She then completed her residency in pediatrics at the dually-accredited program at Nationwide Children's Hospital/Doctors Hospital in Columbus, OH.  After completing her training, Dr. Wolf was hired by Nationwide Children's Hospital as a general pediatrician and also ran a pediatric OMT clinic.  Dr. Wolf was hired as the Co-Program Director of the Nationwide Children's Pediatric Residency Osteopathic Track in 2016.  This program was the first pediatric program in the country to receive this designation under the new ACGME Single Accreditation.  

In 2017, Dr. Wolf started at Touro as the Director of Pediatric OMM.  She is working to increase the osteopathic pediatric curriculum for students at Touro and beyond.  She sees pediatric OMT patients at the Fairfield Solano County Clinic.  She also supervises the pediatric OMT Lab in H89 on campus.  Dr. Wolf is also the OMM Fellowship Director at Touro.  

Dr. Wolf is a national speaker on pediatric osteopathy and osteopathic scholarly activity.  She serves on the Executive Committee for the American Academy of Pediatrics' Section on Osteopathic Pediatricians.  She is also committed to continued osteopathic research, especially in the field of pediatrics.  Research interests include the use of OMT to treat concussions, breastfeeding problems, autism spectrum disorder, plagiocephaly, and torticollis.  She also serves as the Chair of the Poster Presentation Subcommittee for the Louisa Burns Osteopathic Research Committee of the American Academy of Osteopathy.
