Course Description
This OPC course on Osteopathic Medicine and the Performing Artist is a 3-hour didactic and laboratory experiential course designed to provide practicing physicians, resident physicians, and current osteopathic and allopathic medical students more in-depth training in the uniquely osteopathic diagnosis and treatment of performance artist conditions. It is in keeping the legacy of Expanding Osteopathic Courses offered by the late V.M. Frymann, DO, FAAO, FCA. The course didactic components include additional pertinent anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and further exploration of applied clinical osteopathic principles in the context of closely precepted, hands-on laboratory experiences. It pedagogically addresses the cogent understanding and efficacious clinical application of osteopathic principles and practice (OPP) and is intended as an aspect of patient-centered care applied within an integrated osteopathic medical model of diagnosis and treatment. The faculty are practicing physicians chosen for their extensive osteopathic clinical experience, knowledge, and competency as excellent clinical educators to facilitate and optimize the practical educational experience.

Educational Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. List and describe the Four Tenets of Osteopathic Medicine and the Five Osteopathic Models of Diagnosis and Treatment
2. Describe how these tenets and models can be applied in the diagnosis and treatment of performance artist medical issues
3. Describe the unique and distinctive nature of the osteopathic approach in performance art medicine
4. Apply osteopathic philosophy, principles and techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of performance artist medical issues

She has performed in various theatrical and competitive musical productions and was awarded the Miss California Talent Award and the Gold Medal in Operatic Performance at The World Championships of Performing Arts. Before commencing medical school, Dr. Silva spent several years as a professional studio vocalist and a vocal coach. These days, her performances are typically reserved for the audience of her two young children.
