Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Osteopathy (FAAPO) is awarded to distinguished members of the pediatric osteopathic community. This post-doctoral designation will be granted to members who have proven themselves to be committed to pediatric osteopathic care and contributing to the advancement of this field.  This earned honor will be conferred by the AAPO following demonstration of excellence in applying principles of anatomy and osteopathic care to the pediatric patient.
 

FAAPO Application Process: Candidates Guide

  •   Confirm you fulfill the following criteria:
    • You are a member of the AAPO in good standing without significant disciplinary actions.
    • You have been in practice at least 5 years with part of your clinical practice including pediatric OMT
    • You have taken at least 7 AAPO approved pediatric courses.
      • Courses sponsored or co-sponsored by the AAPO will be approved (Please note pediatric Special Interest Group at AAO convo is a study group, not a course, and therefore will not count)
      • Pediatric OMT and Cranial OMT courses sponsored by AAO, OCA, STF and OPC are typically approved
      • If you are not sure that a course will count as approved, feel free to ask. We would be happy to take a look at it and let you know before you apply.
    • You have table trained for at least one AAPO Peds course
    • You have table trained for at least one 40 hour cranial course
    • You have provided service to the AAPO in the form of service on committees, service on the executive board, table training, helping with events or other organizational needs.
  •   Fill out the application. This can be found in the library tab of the members section of the website
  •   Pay the Non-refundable Application fee of $250
  •   Application and Application fee are Due September 1st with anticipated conferment the following March.
  •   Complete the Oral Interview - to be held with at least 2 FAAPOs will be scheduled based on candidate and FAAPOs availability. May be done by Zoom or in person.
    • Applicants will be asked to discuss their background and experience in pediatric OMT
    • Applicants should be prepared to discuss two cases including their approach to evaluating and caring for patients and any applicable pediatric anatomic considerations.
  •   Complete the in person Practical – to be done with at least 2 FAAPOs. To be scheduled based on candidate and FAAPO’s availability.
    • Practical exam will consist of the applicant treating a patient - preferably a pediatric patient when available.
    • Applicants may also be asked to demonstrate specific OMT techniques classically used in the pediatric population.
    • Applicants may be asked how techniques would be applied to pediatric patients with specific conditions/complaints.
    • Applicants will be asked questions about pediatric anatomy and how it impacts their approach to treatment and techniques chosen.
    • All personal travel expenses are the responsibility of the candidate.
  •   If the candidate does not successfully complete all parts of the process within a year, the FAAPO committee will give the candidate a letter describing the areas where they can strengthen their application for the future.
    • Please note that if the applicant is unsuccessful their application fee will not be refunded.
    • The applicant will be required to submit a new application and application fee for any future attempts.
  •   Once all parts of the process have been successfully completed the FAAPO committee will recommend approval to the AAPO executive council who will have final approval of all FAAPO candidates.
  •   Formal conferment of the status of FAAPO will be presented to the candidate during the membership business meeting that is held annually.

Fellows must maintain AAPO membership in good standing without disciplinary actionto maintain their status as Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Osteopathy.

Dr. Kimberly J. Wolf, DO, FAAP, FACOP, FAAPO  is a graduate of Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ and Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP), Pomona, CA. She is board-certified in Pediatrics. Dr. Wolf completed a dually-accredited Pediatric Residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Doctors Hospital, Columbus, OH. She is currently an Associate Professor of OMM and Director of Pediatric OMM at Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Research Director for Osteopathy's Promise to Children. Dr. Wolf is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatric Osteopathy, and the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians. She is a member of the AOA, AAO, ACOP, AAP, AAPO, and OCA  and holds leadership positions within most of these organizations.

Dr. Hope Tobey, DO, FAAPO, FAAP, FACOP, is a graduate of Messiah University in Grantham, PA and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, PA. She is Board Certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and Board Certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Tobey completed an osteopathic internship at Heart Of Lancaster in Litiz, PA, and a pediatric residency at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital in Hershey, PA. She completed her ONMM “Plus One” residency at Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Blacksburg VA.  Dr. Tobey currently practices as an Osteopathic Pediatrician and Professor of OMM and Pediatrics at Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Blacksburg VA. Dr. Tobey is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Osteopathy, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians. She is on the executive board of the AAPO. Memberships include: AOA, AAO, AAPO, OCA and VOMA.
